Season 7 is the seventh season of Germany's version of the popular dating show; Love Island, hosted by Sylvie Meis and premiering March 21st,2022 on RTLII.

Production[]

The seventh season of the show was first confirmed to be in production, after the previous season concluded through audition advertisements released through their social media pages on December 2nd,2021.^[1]

Promotion for the new season, first began on January 28th, when new promotional images of host Sylvie were released by the producers both to the press and on their social media pages, revealing the new season's tagline to be "Festival of Love". At the same time, they also promised that everything surrounding this season of the show would be different to the previous six seasons. This would then be reaffirmed by Sylvie in an interview with German lifestyle magazine; Gala.^[2]

On February 14th 2022, it was confirmed by the show, that the new season would be premiering March 21st,2022 on RTLII with episodes airing Mondays to Fridays, as well as on Sundays. This was accompanied by new promotional material, featuring Sylvie and a number of actors posing as islanders in the background.^[3]

Casting[]

Applications for the new season were opened on December 2nd,2021 with the release of a new advertisement on the show's Instagram, featuring Sylvie and clips from a number of the islanders in the past season, convincing applicants to audition for the show. Once again the producers were looking to find young and attractive boys and girls between the ages of 18 and 35 to fill out an application form and send in audition videos. As of March, the applications are still open for potential new islanders to sign up.^[4]

Villa[]

For this season, the show will once again be airing from a luxury villa that's located in Tenerife, however it will be a different one from the one that was used for the previous season of the show. Official images of the villa were released by the producers, just a day before the season's launch on March 21st. The villa this time round features, a large pool, lounge area, outside bar/kitchen, decking areas, a large bedroom and changing rooms for the boys and girls, all decked out with LI iconography.^[5]

Brotel[]

Revealed on launch day; March 21st,2022, the Brotel is a new villa that was added for this season, as a part of a new twist. The villa is situated close to the main one and in a show first is where the boys will be living separately from the girls for the first few days, without any coupling occurring.^[6]

Islanders[]

The initial cast for the new season were starting to be teased by the show from March 15th,2022 through their Instagram, where they posted a sizzle reel featuring close-up shots of the new islanders. Here they revealed that the new cast would be revealed exclusively through the show's official app on March 16th. The initial cast for this season, is the largest initial cast to feature on a season of LI with a total of 14 new islanders; 7 boys and 7 girls.^[7] However it should be noted that it's still unknown whether all of them will enter on launch night.

	Couplings	Day 2: On Day 1, after all 10 boys and girls had entered the villa, they were told that in a show first, they wouldn't be coupling up on Day 1 , with the girls then having to decide which 2 boys could stay in the main villa with them, their choices being Adriano and Mark. This meant that only Adriano and Mark would be able to couple the next day- Adriano & Jessica, Mark & Vanessa L. Day 4: First coupling/re-coupling (Boys Choice) - Mark & Vanessa L (Stayed together). Adriano & Leona, Bucci & Vanessa K, Nico & Jennifer, Tommy & Sandrine (Coupled/re-coupled).
	Challenges	Day 2: Airing the Grounds: In this challenge, the girls would each have to pick a male partner and then dive into a pool of foam to look for a small heart pendant, that they'd be able to give to their partner. However this would only be if they were able to get a secret about their partner correct. The islander who managed to collect the most hearts would win. In the end the winner was Vanessa K, who was given the opportunity to take a boy of her choice on a date.

	Challenges	Day 8:On Cloud 7: The islanders dressed up as gods and angels, take it in turns to place 7 stickers featuring islanders of the opposite sex on a target-board, placing the islander they most wanted to kiss on the centre target and the others on the other rings, in order of most attracted to. Once this was done they'd need to get on a rocking cloud and attempt to throw darts at the centre-place islander. If they were able to hit the islander placed in the centre, they'd score a point, as well as a kiss from said islander.

Day 20: Fourth Re-coupling (Girls Choice) - Jennifer & Nico, Cindy & Mark, Leona & Leon (Stayed together). Sandrine & Bocc, Carina & Chris, Inna & Jendrik (Re-coupled).

	Exits	Day 16: After the day's re-coupling, the couples were tasked with deciding which of them were least romantic in their relationship, being asked to vote on the matter - Adriano & Sanne (Voted least romantic couple) Day 18: On Day 17, a public vote for the most deserving islanders to be in the villa opened up - Mahdi (Voted least deserving) Day 19: A day after her partner's dumping, Vanessa K received a text during that night's party revealing that if she wanted to she could go and meet up with Madhi, but with the proviso that she wouldn't be able to return to the villa. In the end she took took this option and left the villa.
