Season 6 is the sixth season of the German version of Love Island, hosted by Sylvie Meis and premiering August 30th, 2021 on RTLII.
Production[]
The sixth season of the show was first confirmed to be in production during October 2020, where it was revealed that ITV studios and RTL were looking to increase the amount of LI seasons to 2 per year, instead of the normal 1. One would air during the spring and the other would air in the show's normal period of late August-September. On March 28th, 2021, a day before the finale of the previous season, Jana Zarella made the announcement that she'd be stepping down as host of Love Island Germany, meaning she wouldn't continue for the sixth season.[1]
Later on August 4th,2021 it was announced that Dutch television personality/model; Sylvie Meis would be taking over the role of hostess from Jana from the sixth season onwards.[2]
Casting[]
For this season, auditions and applications for the fifth season of the show were carried over, with the show's producers putting out ads calling for new islanders to audition for it's sixth season from April onwards through the use of their social media accounts. As usual the producers were looking for young and attractive single boys and girls looking for love, inviting them to start an application at their auditions site.
In particular the page features a short video, advertising the LI experience, before encouraging potential applicants to click on the button below it and start their application for the show.
Villa[]
For this season, the show moved to a new location in Spain, moving to a another villa located in Majorca. The first official images of the villa were released via the show's Instagram on August 30th,2021 (the day of the launch), revealing a 2-floored luxury villa featuring a make-up room, boys changing room, large bedroom and lounge, as well as an expansive outside area, featuring an outdoor bar, decking area and a large pool.[3]
It should also be mentioned that the villa being used for this season, is the same villa that was utilized in the first 2 seasons of the original UK version of the show.
Islanders[]
The initial line-up of islanders for the sixth season, were starting to be teased by the producers on August 21st,2021 through their social media accounts, showing blurry body-shots of the islanders that'd be taking part, before then revealing the line-up in it's entirety on August 23rd. The cast is comprised of 13 different islanders, with 7 boys and 6 girls.[4]. However only 9 of these islanders entered the villa on Day 1, with more islanders due to enter later.
