Season 5 (UK)

Season 5 is a the fifth season of the popular British dating reality TV show, hosted by Caroline Flack. This season of the show premiered June 3rd,2019 on ITV2.^[1]

The season concluded on July 29th,2019, where Amber Gill and Greg O'Shea were declared the winners of the season and of the £50,000, with Molly-Mae Hague & Tommy Fury ending up as the runners-up.

Production[]

The fifth season of Love Island was confirmed at the finale of Love Island 2018 on July 30th,2018. Caroline Flack and Iain Stirling will both be returning to the show, as the host and narrator respectively.

Casting[]

The Applications for this season, opened up as soon as 2018's season had finished, with singles being persuaded to start recording audition tapes and videos to send in to producers. At the start of April 2019, it was reported by the Daily Star on Sunday, that the producers were looking for more body-diversity in the applicants for the season. This move came after backlash from the fans, who complained about this subject during the previous season.

It was also revealed that better aftercare for the islanders would be put into place by producers, after the unfortunate suicides of Sophie Gradon and Mike Thalassitis in 2018 and 19 respectively.^[2]. The applications for this season, closed on April 30th. However on May 3rd, 2019 the application closing date was extended till July 15th,2019.^[3]

Villa[]

The first images of the villa were revealed on May 8th,2019, where it was revealed that the villa would remain in the same location as the previous 2 seasons, after speculation that the villa location would change. The configuration of the villa's parts largely remained the same, apart from the outdoors area which is getting a major overhaul.

The images released were mainly of the villa's preparation for this season.^[4] The first official images of the villa, were released to the public on May 30th,2019, just 4 days before the launch of the season.

Islanders[]

The initial line-up of Islanders for this season, has been speculated to be revealed on Monday, 27th May after cryptic social media posts made by the ITV2 accounts. The post in question teased the big announcement, while showing show off a collective image of a heart from each of the posts.^[5]

The initial line-up for the 2019 series was announced May 27th,2019 a week before the season's launch. Further islanders will enter later.

	Coupling	Day 1:After the girls had entered the villa, the boys were introduced 1 by 1 and were allowed to couple up with the girl of their choice. The couplings were as such: Amber & Callum, Amy & Anton, Anna & Sherif, Lucie & Joe, Michael & Yewande. Day 2:Singular islanders; Curtis and Tommy were allowed to steal 2 girls off of the boys. 	Challenges	Day 2:Sliding into the DM's-The girls and boys went up against each other in a challenge, that involved a member from each team having to slide down a giant phone-based water slide, grab a statement and then kiss the person they thought it related to, in order to score a point and the team with the most points would win. Day 5:The Good, the Bad and the Sexy-The boys had to dress up as cowboys and complete a series of western-themed obstacles, including a bucking bull and the girls spraying them with paint. The girls would then decide the winner, based on who did it the sexiest. In the end Michael was the winner.

	Challenges	Day 6:Tower of Truths-The islanders played Tower of Truths, where each of the couples had to pull out jenga-blocks and read out a question to their partner, who would then need to answer honestly. Day 12:Bridezilla-The girls had to dress up in wedding dresses and compete in 2 rounds, featuring them having to drag their man up the aisle and a food fight. In the end Anna won the challenge.

Day 19:Snogathon-The girls took part in a kissing contest, where each of the girls had to kiss all the boys once, with each of the boys then giving them a mark out of 10. The girl with the highest total at the end wins. Anna was declared the winner in the end. Day 21:Gym Bunnies-The Girls dressed up in bunny-girl outfits, and had to complete 4 different exercises, with their partner being their coach. The fastest girl to do so would win. In the end it was Maura who was crowned the winner.

The eventual winners were the Green team (Amy,Curtis,Danny,Arabella,Amber & Michael) Day 24:Online Buzz-The couples took part in a quiz where they had to guess, what the viewers had said about them in tweets. In the end Amber & Michael and Anna & Jordan were the joint winners.

	Challenges	Day 28:Sexy Charades-Casa Amor and the Main villa went head-to-head in a game of charades, where 2 islanders had to act out a sext position, and if their team guessed correctly, they'd get a point. The winning villa would be the one with the most points at the end. Casa Amor were the eventual winners. Day 29:Raunchy Races-The villa went head to head once more in a number of various different challenges. The villa that managed to complete each challenge first would win a point, with the team that had the most points at the end winning a party. In the end the Main Villa won the party. Day 31:Ile D'amour-The islanders were tasked with completed 2 different French-themed challenges. The first one featured taste-testing of 3 French foods by the guys, with their partner then having to guess the food once they'd been kissed. The second challenge involved the boys having to take crepe batter off of their partner's bodies to make crepes. In the end, however Marvin and Maura were declared the winners.

	Challenges	Day 38:Dirty Dancing-The islanders split into 2 teams based upon gender, with each team having to dress up and perform a sexy dance in order to try and get the heart rates of the opposite gender up. The team that manages to raise heart-rates the most would win. In the end the girls won the challenge. Day 39:Lad Points-The boys took part in 3 different rounds, all of which were centred around lad-culture. In the end Anton and Marvin were declared the winners of the challenge. Day 42:Snog,Marry,Pie-The islanders took part in a game of snog, marry and pie, with the boys and girls taking it in turns to choose who they wanted to snog with a kiss, marry with a ring and pie with a cream-pie.

	Challenges	Day 43:Doggy Style-In this challenge, the boys were blindfolded and dressed up as dogs, having to be lead through a track, while collecting doggie treats and being lead by their partner. The eventual winners were Chris and Francesca. Day 46:Men at Work-The boys took part in an construction-themed obstacle, course carrying their partner through, till they got to the wrecking ball. The girls would then have to pick a winner based on how sexy they were during the challenge. In the end Ovie was declared to be the sexiest, meaning he had won the challenge. Day 47:Mr and Mrs-The couples took part in a quiz, where each half had to guess their partner's answer to a question, by writing it on a blackboard. If the answers matched they scored a point. In the end Tommy and Molly-Mae were declared the winners.
