The fifth season of Love Island Australia, was confirmed to be in production on March 21st,2023 upon the launch of the show's application drive.[1] On June 21st,2023 it was confirmed that like the previous season, this season would be once again pre-recorded instead of airing live, with the producers announcing applications for fans of the show to become LI "superfans" and take part in the new season.[2]
Filming for the fifth season would then later begin on August 19th,2023[3] At the same time it was also confirmed that Sophie Monk would once again return to host the season. On October 2nd,2023 the first promotional trailer for the new season was released featuring host; Sophie Monk and revealing that there would be a new twist involved with the fifth season, one that was toted as being the "spiciest twist ever" and that would give the girls all the power.[4]
On October 16th,2023 alongside the announcement of the new cast, it was confirmed that the season would be premiering October 30th,2023.[5]
Casting[]
The applications for the fifth season were launched on March 21st,2023 upon the announcement of the season, with producers then looking for young and attractive boys and girls to apply to become islanders. The producers began a promotional campaign running from March encouraging potential islanders to apply for the new season via the application form on their site.[6] Applications were closed prior to the filming date of August 19th,2023.
Villa[]
As of October,2023 it's not currently known from which villa the fifth season filmed at, however it's most likely to have been the villa used for the previous season.
Islanders[]
The initial cast of islanders were announced in full on October 16th,2023 being comprised of 5 girls and 5 boys. Further islanders entered the villa later as bombshells.
Day 1: After each of the girls had entered the villa, they were introduced to the boys one by one. However in an LI-Australia first, the girls were then given the power to choose who to couple up with, with each of the boys then having to step forward for any of the girls they were interested in. The girls would be able to choose from any of them, regardless of whether they were already in a couple. These were the final couplings-Kirra & Ollie, Nakia & Nate, Savanah & Zac, Tia & Trent, Tyra & Ben.
Day 3: On Day 2, bombshell; Lucinda was told that during the next evening she would be able to choose a boy to couple up with. Upon the evening of Day 3, Lucinda made the decision to couple up with Nate, while new bombshell; Reid who had just arrived in the villa was also given the opportunity to couple up with a girl and as such chose to couple up with Tia, therefore meaning that both Nakia & Trent were left single and vulnerable.
Day 6: First re-coupling (Girls/Kale's choice)-Tyra & Ben (Stayed together). Kale & Nakia, Lucinda & Zac, Savanah & Trent, Tia & Nate, Kirra & Reid (Re-coupled).
Challenges
Day 4:Hit it Off- In this challenge, the boys were pitted against the girls in a boxing-themed challenge. In the challenge, an islander would need to first punch a boxing-dummy and then attempt to pull a sexy pose while sliding down a slide into the boxing ring. Once there they'd need to fish out a boxing glove and read a revealing statement that correlates to an islander of the opposite sex. To submit their guess they'd need to snog the islander they thought it belonged to. If they got it correct, they'd score a point for their team, with the winning team being the one that had the highest total points in the end. In the end it was the boys that won the challenge.
Day 9: Second re-coupling (Boys/Abby's choice)-Ben & Tyra, Kale & Nakia, Trent & Savanah, Zac & Lucinda, Nate & Tia (Stayed together). Abby & Reid (Re-coupled).
Challenges
Day 8:Out of this World- For this alien-themed challenge, the boys and girls were once again pitted against each other in a challenge where each of the couples were invited one by one to perform a sexy pole-dance. After this, the host; Abby would put percentage-based question to them surrounding the feedback to their relationship from the "superfans". The member of the couple that guesses the closest percentage to the answer, would score their team a point. Ultimately the team that scores the highest total amount of points would be declared the winners of the challenge. In the end, it was the boys that were declared the winners.
Day 11: Third re-coupling (Girls/bombshells choice)-Nakia & Kale, Savanah & Trent, Abby & Reid (Stayed together). Aidan & Tyra, Ryan & Lucinda, Tia & Zac, Georgia & Nate (Re-coupled).
Challenges
Day 11:Undress to Impress-For this challenge, each of the boys were tasked with dressing up in a sexy costumes before taking part in a work-themed obstacle course. Upon doing this they would need to try and put on the sexiest performance possible, with the winner of the challenge ultimately being determined by the girls. In the end the winner of the challenge was determined to be Ben.
Day 12: On Day 12 it was revealed that a vote had been held between the superfans for the most popular couples-Lucinda & Ryan, Tia & Zac (voted least popular couples)-Ryan & Tia (Chosen by most popular couples).
Day 13: On Day 13, bombshell; Andy was given the opportunity to couple up with a girl of his choice and as such he made the decision to couple up with Nakia, which left Kale single and in a twist he was dumped.
Day 18: Bombshell; Chloe was given the opportunity to choose one of the boys to couple up with and as such made the decision to couple up with Reid, leaving Tasia single.
Exits
Day 18:On Day 18 it was revealed that there was a "Superfan" vote for the most genuine islanders-Trent, Seb,Zac, Abby, Georgia, Savanah (Voted least genuine boys and girls respectively)-Abby & Seb (Chosen by islanders).
