Season 5 (America)

Season 5 is the fifth season from the American version of Love Island, hosted by Sarah Hyland and premiering July 18th,2023 on Peacock.

Production[]

Upon the announcement of the acquisition of Love Island USA by Peacock on February 23rd,2022 it was confirmed that the streaming service had picked up the show for 2 seasons, including the fifth season for summer 2023.^[1]

On April 18th,2023 it was announced that this season would be immediately followed by a brand new spinoff series titled; Love Island Games. The new spinoff series would start premiering in the fall on Peacock, after the fifth season had come to it's conclusion and feature all-star islanders from the American, UK and Australian versions of the show.^[2]

The first promotional material for the season was released via the show's social media accounts on June 21st,2023, confirming that the new season would be premiering July 18th,2023 as well as the fact that UK narrator; Iain Stirling would be returning to narrate the show after the previous season.^[3]

Modern Family star; Sarah Hyland was confirmed to be returning to her role as host for the season alongside the announcement of the initial cast-members on July 11th,2023. At the same time it was also revealed that "Vanderpump Rules" star; Ariana Madix would be making a guest appearance on the show during it's second week.^[4]

On July 13th,2023 it was announced that former Love Island UK star; Maura Higgins would be joining the show as it's social ambassador for the season. In this position, Maura would be managing the social media channels for the show and giving fans behind-the-scenes gossip.^[5]

Casting[]

Casting for the fifth season of the show began on December 5th,2022 with producers looking for young and attractive single boys and girl to take part. To be in with a chance of taking part, potential islanders would have to apply online via the show's official application form and would have to be over the age of 18 and ready to film in June,2023 at the earliest.

As of July,2023 applications for the season are still open.

Villa[]

Alongside the announcement of the season's launch date on June 21st,2023 it was also announced that for the first time since the show's original season in 2019, it would be returning to Fiji.^[6]

Islanders[]

The initial line-up of islanders were first revealed on July 11th,2023 consisting of 5 boys and 5 girls. Further islanders entered the villa later as bombshells.

Week-Summary[]

Week 1	Entrances	Day 1:Anna,Carmen,Carsten,Destiny,Hannah,Jasmine,Kassy,Keenan,Leonardo,Marco, Vickala,Victor. Day 4:Harrison.
	Couplings	Day 1: After each of the girls entered the villa, Sarah introduced the boys one by one and they had to take part in a "Stick or twist" coupling. In this coupling each boy had to stand on one of 5 hearts and the girls would have to line-up behind the boy they were interested in, but if another boy came in that they were more attracted to, they'd be able to twist and move to him. The last girl standing behind each boy would be coupled with them. The final couplings were-Anna & Carsten, Destiny & Marco, Jasmine & Victor, Kassy & Leonardo, Vickala & Keenan. Day 3: On Day 2, bombshell girls; Carmen and Hannah were told that they'd be able to steal a boy of their choice to couple up with the next evening. On Dau 3, Carmen chose to couple up with Victor while Hannah chose Marco leaving Jasmine and Destiny single respectively. Day 5: First re-coupling (Boys choice)-Marco & Hannah, Victor & Carmen, Keenan & Vickala (Stayed together). Leonardo & Anna, Bergie & Kassy, Harrison & Destiny (Re-coupled)
	Challenges	Day 3:High school drop-outs-For this challenge, the islanders were split into 2 teams with bombshells; Carmen and Hannah as team-captains. In a number of rounds, each team would nominate a player to go up and sit atop a dunking tank, opposite their rival's candidate and they would then be tasked with giving as many answers as possible to a question based on typical school subjects. The candidate with the most answers would score a point for their team, while the one that stopped answering would be dunked. At the end the team with the most total points would be declared the winners. Ultimately the winning team was Carmen's team. Day 6:Rescuers of the Lost Spark-In this challenge, each of the girls had to dress up in explorer outfits and take part in an adventure-themed course comprised of 3 parts. For the first part, the explorer would need to fish out a snake from a sand-pit and place it around the neck of the girl they thought was the snakiest. After this they'd need to dig-up a question and give the name of one of the boys to it, before then proceeding to go up and rescue a boy of their choice, taking to them the fountain and snogging them. Ultimately the boys would then determine the winner, based on who pulled off the sexiest performance. The winner in the end was declared to be Anna.

	Challenges	Day 7:Mr and Mrs-For this challenge, guest host and VPR star; Ariana Maddix put a number of questions surrounding the couples themselves towards them. In order to score a point, each member of a couple would need to have matching answers and the couple that scored the highest total points at the end would be the winners of the challenge and of immunity from a public vote. In the end, the winners of the challenge were; Hannah & Marco. Day 12:Mr and Mrs Lava lava-In this challenge, the couples each had to dress up as cave-men and women and take part in a volcano-themed course. To start with, the cave-woman would be chained to the top of a make-shift volcano, while their partner would be blind-folded. They'd be in charge of giving their partner directions in lava-pit at the bottom of the volcano, where they'd need to search for bones engraved with their names. These bones would act as keys and could be used to unchain the cave-woman. The couple to complete this course the quickest would be the winners. In the end, the fastest couple to complete the challenge were Carmen & Kenzo.
