Season 4 (Australia)

Season 4 is the fourth season of the Australian Love Island, hosted by Sophie Monk and premiering October 31st,2022 on Channel 9.

Production[]

It was announced by ITV Studios and Channel 9 on March 29th,2022 that LI Australia would be returning for a fourth season in 2022, with Sophie Monk also being confirmed to be reprising her position as host for the season.^[1]

On September 7th,2022 it was reported that for the first time ever, this season of the show would be pre-recorded prior to the show's airing instead of the usual day-by day format. This came after reports of filming activity at the Majorcan villa, where MAFs Australia star; Al Perkins was seemingly confirmed to be a part of the cast.^[2]It was further reported later on September 27th,2022 that the show had pre-recorded 3 different finales with different ending with the intention of getting the audience to vote on the ending they wanted depending on the couple they wanted to win. It should be noted that only one of these endings will be shown on television however.^[3]

The first teasers for the new season were released through the show's social media accounts on September 24th,2022 featuring host; Sophie Monk doing some salsa-dancing to advertise the fact that the show would be returning to Majorca.^[4] The first full trailer for the season was later released on October 2nd,2022, confirming that the new season would be arriving in October.^[5]

On October 13th,2022 the producers officially revealed that the new season would be premiering October 31st,2022, alongside the reveal of the initial cast members for the season.^[6]

Casting[]

Auditions for the new season were opened upon the announcement of the new season on March 29th,2022. As per usual the producers were looking for young and attractive boys and girls between the ages of 19 and 30. In order to apply to be a potential islander, applicants would need to fill out a form that could be accessed through the show's website. The form in question featured 5 sections based upon areas such as personal details, social media details and photos.^[7]

Auditions for the new season were closed in July 2022, just before the show was to head out to Majorca for filming in the summer.

Villa[]

In July 2022, it was confirmed by ITV studios Australia, that the show would be moving back to Majorca, Spain after 2 seasons away from the country.^[8] Later on September 7th,2022 when the news came out about Al Perkins taking part in the show, the villa that was in use was also confirmed to be the villa in which Casa Amor took place in for the previous season of Love Island UK. This would later be backed up by promotional material for the new season giving fans a glimpse of the new villa.

Islanders[]

The initial line-up of islanders for the season were announced on October 13th,2022 just over 2 weeks away from the launch of the season. The initial line-up for the season was comprised of 7 boys and 6 girls, with more islanders set to enter the villa later in the season as bombshells.^[9]

Week-Summary[]

	Couplings	Day 1:After each of the girls came in, the boys were introduced one by one and the girls were each allowed to ask them questions pre-coupling. After this, host Sophie Monk had the girls line-up and asked them to step forward when it was the turn of a guy they were interested in. The guy would then have full range of the girls to choose from, regardless of whether they were in a couple.The final couplings were as such-Andre & Stella, Austen & Layla, Conor and Jess, Jordan and Claudia, Mitch and Phoebe. Holly who had been left single, was allowed to stay in the villa, Day 2: During the evening of Day 2, Holly was given the opportunity to choose one of the guys to couple up. As such Holly chose to couple up with Jordan, leaving Claudia single. Day 5:First re-coupling (Girls/bombshells choice)- Jess & Conor, Phoebe & Mitch (Stayed together). Callum & Layla, Tak & Holly, Claudia & Austen, Stella & Jordan (Re-coupled).
	Challenges	Day 3:Red-Flags-For this challenge the boys were pitted against the girls in a Bay-watch themed challenge where members of team took a buoy at random and then read a statement correlating to an islander on the opposite team. The reader would the need to jump into a pool and wrestle with an inflatable shark-toy before slow-mo walking down the path while getting sprayed with water. Finally they would need to plant a snog on the islander they thought the statement correlated to. If they got it right they'd score a point and the team with the most points at the end would be the winners. In the end with a score of 3-2 it was the girls that won the challenge.

	Couplings	Day 7:On Day 7, Maddy was told that she would be able to steal a boy of her choice to couple up with and as such that evening, she chose to couple up with Mitch leaving Phoebe single. Day 9:Second re-coupling (Boys choice) - Austen & Claudia, Callum & Layla, Jordan & Stella (Stayed together). Al & Jess, Conor & Holly, Mitch & Phoebe, Tak & Maddy (Re-coupled).
	Challenges	Day 7:Poles Apart-In this challenge, the boys were pitted against the girls in an arctic-themed challenge. Dressed up in penguin-suits and polar-bear themed swimsuits, the boys and girls respectively came up as couples and were given a number of questions where the answer would be a percentage. To submit their answer each islander would have to guess a percentage, by moving a pole up a scale and then limbo-ing under it. The answer would then be revealed and the team that managed to get their answer closest to the actual percentage would score a point and the team that scored the most in the end would be declared the winners. Ultimately it was the boys that won the challenge with a score of 4-3.

	Couplings	Day 14: During the evening, bombshells Phoebe H and Vakoo were told that they would be able to couple up with a boy of their choice. As such Phoebe H chose to couple up with Jordan and Vakoo chose to couple up with Callum. This left Stella and Layla single, however upon the arrival of bombshell; Ben, Stella was saved from being dumped when Ben chose to couple with her.
	Challenges	Day 10:Catty-Walk-For this challenge, the couples took it in turns to dress up in cowboy and girl costumes before bursting through a door-frame and walking down a cat-walk. After doing so, the couple would need to select another islander or 2 to perform a roast on. The final part of the challenge would involve them seductively pouring a drink over themselves. Day 11:Couples Sports day-In this challenge, each of the couples took part in a some sports-day themed challenges, including an aubergine and spoon race, a swimming event and a banana-eating segment. In each of the challenges, the top performing couples in each event were rewarded with cashback dollars that they could use on things like a night in the hide-away. Day 13:Guess Who (is kissing you)-For this challenge, both the boys and the girls were handcuffed to a chair while being blindfolded, with the host of the challenge; Callum then spinning a wheel with the faces of the islanders from the opposite sex. The islander to whom the wheel landed on would then have to plant a kiss on the blindfolded islander. Once this is done, the blindfolded islander would need to guess who kissed them by knocking down a number of paddles symbolizing the potential candidates and leave one up for the islander they thought it was. The host would then ask said islander to reveal themselves.

Guess Who (is kissing you)	3	13	Islanders were blindfolded in the challenge, with Callum as their host. Callum had to spin the wheel and whoever it landed on had to pash the blindfolded Islander. To make things more interesting, they then had to guess who kissed them.

Naughty List	6	25	Each of the Islanders dressed as naughty little elves each had to pick up a Christmas present and read out a comment another Islander has said about them. If that wasn't enough to stir the pot, they then had to guess who said it by throwing a drink in their face before who actually said it was revealed. What could possibly go wrong?
