Season 1 is the first season of the Franco-Canadian version of Love Island, hosted by singer/television presenter; Naadei Lyonnais and premiering September 12th,2021 on Quebec streaming service; TVA.
Production[]
The first season of LI Quebec was confirmed to be in production by both Quebecor Entertainment and ITV Studios International on October 26th,2020, after both the UK and American versions of Love Island managed to garner success from having previously been streamed on the platform. At the time, it was stated Quebecor Entertainment that they had made this move as they believed it would be a good way of retaining an audience for their platform through the likes of LI's real-time format and the app-voting mechanics that are involved in the show.
Later on March 31st, it was confirmed that singer/television presenter; Naadei Lyonnais would be hosting the first season of the show, alongside the Canadian screenwriter; Medhi Bousaidan who would be acting as the narrator. On August 31st, 2021 it was confirmed that the first season of the show, would be premiering on the streaming platform on September 12th,2021.
Casting[]
Auditions for this season were opened, upon the announcement of the season in October 2020. The show was looking for young and attractive single boys and girls between the ages of 20 & 30 to take part, with all potential applicants being required to fill out a form of their personal details, as well as to answer a variety of questions on what would make them a good islander. As of September, 2021 the applications are still open for those who want to take part in the show as bombshells.[1]
Villa[]
Originally the first season of the show was going to be based in a luxury villa found in Gran Canaria, Spain however later in production it was decided that the show would instead air from a villa in Los Cabos, Mexico. The villa in question has a total of 10 different bedrooms, 12 bathrooms and 2 garages, also featuring a large decking area, where the pool, firepit and outdoor seating areas are situated. However it would be wise to note that not all of this was available to the islanders, with the production revising sections of it. The first official images were released on September 9th,2021 just 3 days before the launch of the show.[2]
Islanders[]
Alongside the reveal of the show's launch-date on August 31st, it was also confirmed that the initial line-up of islanders would be officially revealed on September 2nd,2021- just over a week away from the launch. To tease the line-up the producers used the show's social media accounts to begin a series of count-down posts, featuring blurry images of the islanders, before the line-up was revealed in full on September 2nd as mentioned previously. The initial line-up for this season was comprised of 5 girls and 5 boys, with more islanders poised to enter the villa later in the season as bombshells.
