Season 1 is the first season of the Greek version of Love Island, hosted by actress/presenter Iliana Papageorgiou and premiering September 29th,2022 on Skai.tv.
Production[]
The first season of the show was confirmed to be in production on April 29th,2022 by Skai and ITV Studios. This news was later reaffirmed on August 11th,2022 where it was revealed that the show had been commissioned off of the success of the previous UK season noting the high average ratings that it was able to attain with figures of 4.5 million. This was coupled with the high social media interaction surrounding the show.[1]
On May 26th,2022 it was announced that Greek television presenter and actress; Iliana Papageorgiou would be presenting the first season of the show.[2] This came after initial speculation that pop-star; Josephine Wendel had been approached for the position previously. On September 21st,2022 it was confirmed that the first season would be premiering on Skai, on September 27th after having previously been delayed from the end of August.[3]
However on September 26th,2022 it was announced that the launch date of the first season was being pushed back to September 29th,2022 on account of extreme weather conditions that had been hitting the area in Tenerife where they'd be filming the show.[4]
Casting[]
Auditions for the first season of the show were officially announced on May 12th,2022 with the show looking to make use of their social media accounts to start their audition drive for the new season. To do this, they made use of promotional ads using footage taken from the show's intro theme, as well as using persuasive captions surrounding the ideals of finding love.[5] This promotional drive would run up until the end of June 2022.
The producers as usual were looking for young and attractive single boys and girls between the ages 18 and 35, looking to get potential applicants to fill out an extensive application form through the use of their website. This application form would detail general personal details, such as name, gender and age, as well as asking potential islanders questions surrounding their suitability for the show.[6]As of September 2022, the applications are still open for potential islanders.
The villa[]
The first official images of the new villa were released by the show on September 22nd,2022 through the Greek morning news show; "Our Breakfast", where they showed viewed an exclusive first look at the new villa located in Tenerife.[7]The villa has a variety of luxury features, such as a large outside pool and kitchen area, day-beds, the iconic beach-hut, lounge and bedrooms.
Islanders[]
The initial cast of islanders for the season, were announced on September 23rd, 2022 just four days ahead of the premiere. The initial cast for the season is comprised of 5 boys and 5 girls, with more islanders set to enter the villa later in the season as bombshells.[8]
