Season 11 is the eleventh season of the original British version of Love Island, hosted by Maya Jama and premiering June 3rd,2024 on ITV2.

Production[]

Upon the end of the previous season on July 31st, 2023 it was revealed that there would be an eleventh season of the show. At the time this was one of two seasons announced for 2024, with the first of those being an "All-stars" spinoff and the second being a normal season airing in the summer of 2024.

On April 3rd,2024 it was reported by the Sun, that the eleventh season would be premiering June 3rd,2024.[1] This news would later be officially confirmed by the producers via their social media channels and their main website on May 22nd,2024.[2]

As part of a shake-up to the formula, it was revealed on May 15th,2024 that similar to the show's all-star season, the premiere episode would be aired across both ITV1 and ITV2 as well as ITVX simultaneously for the first time in the main show's history. At the time it was mentioned by insiders that this move was being taken as a way of trying to create a big TV moment, with the producers believing that this'd help to demonstrate their continuing commitment to the format.[3]

On April 17th,2024 it was reported that the producers had looked to put in place a new rule for any potential applicants who had tattoos. At the time it was revealed that this was being put into place so that they can avoid any new islanders getting into trouble over racial-issues surrounding their tattoos. Applicants would be required to sit down with the show bosses and discuss the meanings of any tattoos they had as a part of the audition stage.[4]

Later on April 28th,2024 it was revealed that former Season 5 islander: Amy Hart had renewed her contract to stay on and host the Morning after podcast. This came after she had had success hosting the show during the previous All-stars season.[5] On May 22nd,2024 it was announced by the producers that fellow former S5 islander; Chris Taylor would be joining Amy and Indiyah in place of Sam Thompson for the Morning After. However at the same time it was also confirmed that Thompson would retain his position as a regular panellist on After-Sun with Amy and Indiyah, while Jordan Stephens would be a regular guest panellist.[6]

Upon this announcement it was also confirmed via the show's social media accounts that for the first time ever, MA would be available to watch via Youtube instead of just being a listening podcast.[7]

On May 20th,2024 it was revealed that the social media ban would be brought back for this season. This would in-turn mean that the families and friends of the islanders would once again be unable to use their associated islander's SM pages to support them in a bid to crack down on social media harassment that came as a part of ITV's duty of care implements.[8]

The first teasers for this season were revealed on April 30th,2024 revealing the brand new tagline of "This summer's going to be hot" and featuring a mysterious figure dressed in silver and firing a flame-throwing revealing the tagline. A full trailer was later released on May 4th,2024 revealing that Maya Jama would be returning to host the new season. Upon the release of this trailer, the creative director of Lifted Entertainment: Mike Spencer and the head of reality commissioning and acquisitions: Paul Mortimer revealed that there would be some format changes for this season.[9]

After having been previously axed for the All-stars season, it was revealed on May 11th,2024 that After-sun would be returning for the eleventh season. At the time it was mentioned that it had only been axed for All-stars as the producers had considered AS as a new format for the franchise and as such wanted to start fresh.[10]

Casting[]

Applications for Season 11, were opened on July 31st 2023, after the tenth season came to a close. This being the case however producers only began to advertise this fact a month after the All-stars season came to a close on March 22nd,2024 with social media posts being made through ITV's casting team's Instagram.[11]

As with the previous seasons, producers are looking for young and attractive, single boys and girls age 18 and over to apply. As of May 2024, applications are still open.[12]

Villa[]

On April 7th,2024 it was reported that the show bosses were looking to move to a new villa located outside of Spain with the Algarve in Portugal being sighted as a potential. However this being said it was also emphasized at the time that the eleventh season would return to the Majorcan villa used for Season 8 and 10.[13]

The first images of the villa under construction were revealed by the Sun on May 17th,2024. There the villa's new pink, blue and yellow aesthetic was revealed, as well as first looks at areas like the firepit and the pool.[14] The first official images of the new villa were released on May 28th,2024 revealing new looks at the bedroom, make-up room and bathroom as well as further looks at the outside areas.[15]

Upon the reveal of the new villa, it was revealed that for the first time ever the hide-away would be open on a permanent basis throughout the series. Any two islanders as long they're not in a couple would be able to use the hide-away at any point in the day.[16]

Islanders[]

The islander line-up was revealed in full on May 27th,2024 just a week out from the season's premiere on June 3rd. The initial line-up was comprised of six boys and six girls.[17] Further islanders entered later in the show as bombshells.
