Re-Coupling Ceremonies are a major part of the Love Island format, that take place throughout various points within a season and are a way of dumping islanders from the island.
Format[]
The Re-coupling ceremonies are used as ways to allow the islanders to get together with another islander, in the case they may not want to stay with their current partner. They would usually involve new islanders having entered earlier on.
In the ceremonies, the islanders of one gender have to sit around the firepit, while the other has to stand in front of it. The islanders sitting at the firepit would get the chance to choose one of the islanders standing in front of them to either stay with or re-couple, and the genders would switch around each ceremony. At the end of each ceremony, if an islander is left single, they are dumped from the island.
Throughout the duration of the show, a variety of different re-coupling types have been introduced through twists, such as the "Stick or Twist" re-coupling that was introduced as a part of Casa De Amor.
