Nico, who studies computer science and business studies at the University of Jyväskylä, says that he has followed previous seasons of the series with a hard eye. He has also become familiar with the British version of the programme. "For several years now, I have been thinking that I would like to join this format," Nico reveals to Ilta-Sanomat. Based on previous seasons, Nico believes he fits the program well. Unlike many other reality shows, only small amounts of alcohol are served on Love Island. Nico thinks this is just a good thing. "In this program, you can at least give yourself, so like a reasonable picture. If you were drunk all the time, you would be more likely to do stupid things," he says. Under the Spanish sun, Nico goes in search of new experiences first and foremost. He broke up with his last relationship about six months ago and says he's ready to fall in love again.

Nico was originally set to enter the villa on Day 1, however thanks to issues surrounding COVID, he instead entered the villa on Day 7, as late entrant. For the second re-coupling on Day 9, Nico was coupled up with by Krete. Nico made the decision to stay coupled with Krete during the third re-coupling on Day 13. Nico once again stayed loyal to Krete for the fourth re-coupling on Day 20. At the fifth re-coupling on Day 27, Nico was re-coupled with by Jasmine. However at Day 33's sixth re-coupling, Nico got back together with Krete. Nico, for Day 36's seventh re-coupling was able to stay coupled with Krete. Later at the eighth re-coupling on Day 38, Nico chose to stay coupled with Krete once more. Nico was able to stay coupled to Krete for Day 40's final re-coupling. At Day 49's finale, both Nico and partner; Krete came out together as the runners-up.
